My Bio
Well hello there!

I am an amateur cartoonist from Oulu, Finland.

Starting out as a hobby in 1990 I did quite a lot of pencil drawings, some digital work on the Amiga 500 and later on a few oil paintings. When I finished my computer education, and started working, I took a very long break from my drawing.

Over the few past years I have slowly began to find back to my old hobby and I hope that being a part of the community here at DA will encourage me to push forward, find inspiration and learn more.

Many of my drawings are scenes from tales that have yet to be written. Maybe some time in the future I will create a complete story, a children's book is already in the works, but until then I hope some people will find my drawings interesting enough to imagine a story of their own.

Thank you for visiting!

Well, I am giving it my best shot at least. I am aiming for a simple, colored style of "one frame comics"* about whatever I can come up with. I hope that I can cook up some funny stuff, but time will show how it goes. In any case it is nice as drawing practise. One concern I have is that I spend too long time, ranging from 3-4 hours, on each piece. How people can create full newspaper strips daily is beyond me, and I don't think I ever would be able to keep such a pace beside my daytime job. The problem is probably that I spend quite a lot of time correcting and changing my sketch before inking it, even though the motives are quite simple.

Software

I am quite happy with the way my drawing is progressing, even though I am taking small steps at a time. Learning to use different software and techniques has been fun and rewarding. Even though I spend a lot of time playing with random doodles that do not amount to anything, I feel that I am learning a good basis for working digitally in my own style. I have been testing out several programs in the last few weeks, and so far the one that has impressed me the most is PaintTool SAI. Simply because of its lightweight, accessibility and friendly user interface. Other programs I have tried out is ArtRage, Adobe Photoshop Elements and Inkscape.

So I gave up on doing any more digital work on my old computer and decided to make a switch. The old Pentium 4 with 512MB RAM got sacked, and I bought a brand new... old Pentium 4 used Dell desktop. However, this time around with a 3.6Ghz processor, 4 GB of RAM and a decent graphics card with two DVI ports. I also threw out my old 22 inch VGA monitor and bought two 17 inch monitors with DVI input. The investment was minimal, and so far I am happy with the result. With two monitors I can now keep all my tools on one side of the screen while concentrating on drawing on the other half. No more playing hide and seek with my drawing. The compute
